The PLTW STEM Education Programs

STEM education is something that can be used almost everywhere in the real world. This is why it is so important that more of an emphasis is made on STEM education within the classroom setting. By focusing more on the integration of studies that combine science, technology, engineering and math, students can stay engaged and develop a passion for developing life skills that can be applied well beyond school.

PLTW has several different STEM programs for students of all ages. The developers of the curriculum take a comprehensive approach to implementing activities, projects and just the right amount of work problems so that students can stay excited about what they are learning and apply what they know. The Launch program, which is for students in kindergarten through 5th grade, turns young students into problem solvers. The Gateway program that is just for middle schoolers will challenge and inspire students. High school students will then take Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, and Computer Science programs where each subject will come alive so that students can analyze complex information and solve real world problems.

Why Was Project Lead the Way Created?

Ot one time, the United States was a global leader in innovative professionals, genius scientists and engineers with sparks of creativity. As the focus placed on STEM education decreased, the nation fell behind our global peers who are strides ahead of our once leading position. PLTW was formed in an effort to solve this expanding problem by facing it head on and making institutions in the private and public sector accountable for quality STEM education.

By challenging schools to use STEM program curriculum, advocating for policy change and encouraging private companies to make a larger investment in the education of students today, the initiative is trying to benefit tomorrow and strengthen the future economy. Without creating a movement to address the issues, the economy could suffer long-term.

There is a large network of private companies, lobbyists, educators, and organizations that are pushing to make a difference. By contributing to the movement and helping fund the cost of research, materials and program development, these affiliates are transforming education for society to come. As schools all over the nation implement STEM programs, kids are encouraged to pursue a long-term career in science, technology, engineering or math.
