Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science

As with most major schools that offer computer science programs, students may choose to earn a bachelor of arts degree instead of a bachelor of science degree. Depending on the student’s post-school goals, either degree may be the best program for a student’s future computer science degree. Some of the educational objectives offered by the program include the ability to demonstrate competency of basic computer science topics in areas like mathematics. Some of the classes required of students include Discrete Mathematics, Introduction to Data Structures, and Programming in Java. Students are also required to take a variety of electives, and may choose to concentrate in a focused area of computer science. Students normally satisfy this requirement through standard courses in accredited curriculums in undergraduate programs and may need to take courses to satisfy basic knowledge requirements for program acceptance and completion.

Ph.D. in Computer Science

After acceptance into the Ph.D. program, students at Case Western Reserve are assigned an academic advisor who will help the student with his or her goals for the program. During the program, students will need to submit a plan of study that will include information on the required examinations and the dissertation. Students must complete a minimum of 36 credits beyond the bachelor’s degree level of study with at least 18 of those hours completed in classes at Case Western Reserve. Within those required classes, subjects must include study in mathematics and basic sciences, as well as 12 credits that aren’t directly related to the student’s dissertation or specific course of study. Students must also maintain a GPA of 3.25 in all classes taken at CWRU. The examinations that students must pass as part of their study include Analysis of Algorithms and Operating Systems. Students who fail one of the examinations can take it again, but if a second failure occurs the student will be removed from the program.

Cedarville University

Elmer W. Engstrom Department of Engineering and Computer Science

Established in 1887, Cedarville University was a private school associated with the Presbyterian Church. However, today, the school is run by a group of Baptists and looks to provide a theologically influenced curriculum for students. Two of the original buildings associated with the school’s founding remain open today including the Founder’s Hall and Collins Hall. The school has around 3,200 students attending classes and offers over 70 different undergraduate degree programs in areas like liberal arts, the sciences, and theology. Over the past several decades, the school has slowly expanded by purchasing additional land around the school on which to build new facilities.

Computer Science (B.S.)

Students who enroll in the computer science undergraduate program at Cedarville University are prepared to enter the field of software development after graduation and are also eligible to continue study in a graduate program with all the necessary information needed for such an endeavor. The university boasts that its facilities are dynamic and that the faculty genuinely cares about its students, which leads to a superior educational experience. Ohio Northern University

T.J. Smull College of Engineering

Affiliated with the Methodist Church, Ohio Northern University has been offering classes to students since it was established in 1871. The school received a high ranking for top regional schools in the Midwest from “U.S. News & World Report” when it landed at the number two spot. The school was founded by a man named Henry Solomon Lehr, who was a soldier in the Civil War and was a teacher after the conflict who started offering classes to more than just his elementary school age students.
