Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of West Georgia provides students with foundations in computer science along with the technical skills they will need to succeed in the industry. Online MS in Applied Computer Science
The University of West Georgia offers a Master of Science in Applied Computer Science that is available completely online. The program focuses on applied computer science skills and information technology. Students develop an understanding of practical and comprehensive pedagogy. About University of West Georgia
The University of West Georgia began in 1906 when the decision was made to open the Fourth District Agricultural and Mechanical School. The goal was to provide a more realistic education for young people who lived in rural areas. The school was established in what was the Bonner plantation. In the 1920s, the school began offering adult education courses and extension education. The name of the school was changed to the West Georgia College in 1933.
In 1963, President James E. Boyd peacefully integrated the school by inviting Lillian Williams, a young black woman, to attend. She eventually earned two degrees as well as the highest award given by the school, the Founders Award, which she received in 1985. The school gained university status in 1996.
Today, the University of West Georgia is the state’s sixth-largest public university with 13,520 students enrolled. The school is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s top colleges and universities. The Princeton Review has named the school one of the best regional colleges in the United States and it is recognized as one of the best-fit universities by Colleges of Distinction.

University of West Georgia Application Requirements
Students who have not earned college credit beyond high school graduation are admitted as freshmen. Students must complete an application and pay a fee. Students must provide official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores.
Students who have earned college credit beyond high school graduation may be admitted as transfer students to the University of West Georgia. Students must have a high school diploma or GED and have taken college-level courses after graduation from high school.
Traditional transfer students are those who have earned at least 30 transferable semester or 45 quarter hours regardless of age. Students must complete an application and provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all transferable coursework.
Conditional transfer students are currently enrolled in courses that would bring them to 30 semester or 45 quarter hours. They must complete an application and provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0. They must be in the progress of earning 30 transferrable hours.
A freshman transfer is one who has earned fewer than 30 semester or 45 quarter credit hours. They must complete an application and pay the fee. Official high school transcripts, as well as official ACT and SAT scores, are required. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended are also required.
A non-traditional freshman transfer student is one who has been out of high school at least five years and has earned fewer than 30 transferable credits. They must complete an application and provide a final official high school transcript or official GED certificate. Students must also provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended if applicable. If they have any transferable credits, they must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all attempted courses.
Graduate students must complete an online application and pay the required fee. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities must be provided with one showing the conferring of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Some programs require official graduate entrance examination scores as well. Programs may also have other admission requirements, so students are encouraged to talk to an admissions counselor before applying.
University of West Georgia Tuition and Financial Aid
Residents of Georgia pay $2,132 to $2,665 for full-time graduate tuition. Part-time costs are $177.67 per credit hour. Students who are not residents of Georgia pay $7,524 to $9,406 for full-time undergraduate tuition. Part-time tuition is $627.07 per credit hour. Graduate tuition varies depending on the program chosen.
Financial aid is available, and the Office of Financial Aid works with a variety of federal, state and institutional programs to help students afford tuition. Students may be eligible for loans, grants, scholarships or work programs. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for any assistance and the FAFSA must be renewed annually.
